香港是一個垂直城市，從建築物向高空發展開始，就離不開升降機。 香港首部電梯誕生於1888年，五層高的香港大酒店安裝了奧的斯(Otis)升降機，是一個上上落落的木匣子，早已不存世。130多年後，這個小地方已約有66000部升降機，平均約110人就有一部。 建築物仿似有機的生命體，電線如血管，水管似是消化道，樓梯像一節節的脊骨。升降機在樓層與樓層之間上落，門上小窗口的燈光明暗之間，閃現大廈隱藏的肌理，裝載著一個個舊時代。
