任國棟在facebook專頁中，表示自己在有關言論上過份執著提醒袁國勇在街市內曾有貓，聲稱被誤解要對貓隻趕盡殺絕，他澄清沒有這意思，亦沒要求部門捉貓，並已去信食環署要求容許店主及義工進入街市帶走貓貓暫托。但其實跟進動物事宜部門，應為漁護署。 任國棟在聲明又表示，「我對自已在愛護動物方面的意識不足及有關言論造成的誤解致歉。」不過，有個別網民留言仍撐任國棟之前的做法，並指本報報道是「老屈」，認為任國棟不需要道歉。據知，有關力撐任國楝無做錯者皆為政圈人士，包括其他區議員及議助。 #任國棟
